Nabokov & Playboy
Jul. 10th, 2009 02:20 pm"Playboy magazine is to serialise the final work of the American novelist Vladimr Nabokov.
The novella, The Original of Laura, will be published later this year after Hugh Hefner's title won the bidding war this week to carry a 5,000-word excerpt.
The move is being heralded as the literary event of the year.
Nabokov, who died in 1977, had a long relationship with Playboy, which serialised his 1969 novel, Ada, and printed a number of interviews with him, in which he discussed the controversy that surrounded his most famous novel, Lolita.
However, it is unlikely he would be happy with the decision to allow Playboy to print his unfinished, final work, the Independent reports. His dying wish was for the uncompleted story to be destroyed by his heirs. "
